Richard D. “Rickey” Gause, age 64, of Rochester, NY, sun set on September 2, 2025. Born in Miami, Florida, Rickey devoted his life to family, faith, youth mentorship, and community service. Rickey was the beloved husband of Vielka Gause and a proud father to Rachel, Brandin (Breyanna), Quentin, and Joseph (Riahanah). He cherished his grandchildren, Henry, Myles, and Isaiah. He is also survived by siblings Alford (Kimberly), Syrtraina, Chris, Kala (Ashley), Ajoya (Michael), and Imalea, an extended family of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his father, Marion “Alford” Gause, his mother, Francina Gause, and his brother Jeffery Gause. Rickey graduated from Edison Technical Industrial High School Class of 1980. He later studied at Roberts Wesleyan College and Monroe Community College, earning his Associate's degree in Sports Management. A lifelong entrepreneur and community leader, Rickey carried on the family legacy at G&G Steakout II. He has also held positions with Discovery Charter School, Kodak, Danka, First Funding, The Money Place, and the Southerland Group. He was widely known for his generosity, quick wit, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Rickey’s greatest passion was mentoring young people through sports and structured programs. He was the head coach at Bishop Kearney High School for many years. He worked closely with Beyond Athletics / Next Level & Beyond, and co-founded the Rochester Warriors semi-professional football team in Rochester (1993). He supported youth initiatives across the region, such as Rochester Pop Warner (Tenth Ward Tigers), AAU Franchise Ballers, and 40&1 Baseball youth programs. He also supported fundraising efforts, including volunteer service at Empire Bingo, underwriting scholarships, tutoring, and college visits for participants. A devoted man of faith, Rickey was a district elder in his church community. He will be remembered for his booming laugh, larger-than-life presence, and tireless commitment to uplifting others. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Rickey’s memory to Fellowship Christian Athletes (FCA) to continue his work mentoring athletes.
