Calvin Eulice Cummings—known to everyone who loved him as “Plugg”, slipped away peacefully on November 3, 2025, leaving behind a soundtrack of saxophone riffs, the low rumble of a perfectly detailed car, and the laughter of family who will miss him every single day. Born February 7, 1956, in Mitchell, Georgia to Annette and Eulice Cummings, Calvin carried the warmth of small-town southern roots into every corner of his life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant (USAR) before receiving an Honorable Discharge. For sixteen years he kept Rochester moving, first as a bus driver, then as a supervisor with the Rochester Transit Service (RTS). Later, he guided young lives as a transportation specialist with the Rochester City School District and kept patients safe as Safety Supervisor at Medical Motor Service. Music was his heartbeat. Entirely self-taught, Calvin could make a saxophone cry, laugh, and preach all in the same solo. He shared that gift with the Funky Heavy Band and countless other local groups. Retirement only gave him new skies to conquer. He earned his FAA drone pilot certification, turning the hobby of a curious mind into stunning footage he proudly posted on his YouTube channel, brutus339. In 1993, Calvin promised forever to Loretta Barnes. For thirty-two years they built a home filled with love and music. That promise held strong until the very end. Calvin is survived by the loves of his life: his devoted wife, Loretta Barnes Cummings; daughter, Yolanda “Nikki” Cummings; sons, Clayton Cummings and Vernon Cummings; stepson, Todd Gillenwater; grandson, Herminio (Alisa) Cummings Gonzalez; great-granddaughter, MyAliyah; siblings: Jeannette Cummings Balkum, Tawanda (James) Enoch, Valerie Cummings, Vincent (Nia) Cummings, and Eulenda Cummings; nieces, Kiana Balkum andAlisha Balkum; and a host of cousins, bandmates, and former passengers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annette and Eulice Cummings, and his son, Calvin E. Cummings Jr., who no doubt, greeted him with open arms.
