Obituary for Edna Holmes
Edna L. Wyatt was born on July 22, 1933 In Colquitt, GA to Jim and Lizzie Wyatt. She received Christ at an early age at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She attended Bether Elementary and High School in Colquitt, GA. She moved to Rochester, NY in 1952 in search of a better life and graduated from Benjamin Franldin High School. She later attended Monroe Community College.
She united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Willie J. Holmes on January 4, 1954 and to this union four children were born. Sic. Edna L. Wyatt-Holmes joined the Aenon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James L. Cherry, Sr. and she remained a member under the current pastor, Rev. Dr. Jonathan J. H. McReynolds, although illness prevented her from attending as she did prior to her health setbacks. Sis. Holmes was very active at Aenon, having carried out her responsibilities as past President of the Aenon Nurses Guild with dedicated devotion, immaculate organization, extensive knowledge of her profession and she brought joy and laughter to the Guild. She remained a member of the Nurses Guild until her health began to fail. Additionally, she was the coordinator of the Senior Citizen's Ministry.
Sis. Holmes was employed at Eastman Kodak Company, Strong Memorial Hospital and General Dynamics Electronics, but the nursing profession had always been a goal she sought for herself. At one point it appeared that her dream would not be realized, but one day she was driving on Long Pond Road when she saw a sign that read, "The Future Home of Park Ridge Hospital and Nursing Home". She said to herself, "by the time this facility is completed, I'm going back to school to complete my nursing training and get me a job there". After completing the Licensed Practical Nurse Course in 1976 through the E.O.C. Nursing Program, an affiliate of Brockport State College, her dream became a reality. She joined the Park Ridge staff on May 12, 1976. She always enjoyed helping people. Her mother was her greatest inspiration, instilling in her to set goals and work hard to obtain them, and to always remember where you came from and to not get caught up in materialistic things, for they will pass away, but always trust in the Lord thy God for He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Sis. Holmes (affectionally called "Aunt Nee") had a strong and abiding faith in God and enormous love for family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was the matriarch of her family who was always there for her numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and basically anyone in need.
Sis. Holmes went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the home of her grandson, Patrick Holmes, who tirelessly and unselfishly, along with his wife Deja and his mother Renee, took charge of his grandmother's care during her illness. Sis. Holmes was predeceased by her loving husband, Willie James Holmes, her two sons, Stanley and Randy Holmes, her parents Jim and Lizzie Wyatt and all nine of her siblings. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory her daughter, Carolyn Holmes, her son, Anthony Holmes, five grandchildren, Candace (Michael), Andrea (Erick), Patrick (Deja), David (Breona) and Keith, six great-grandchildren, Renee English, daughters-in-law, Vickie and Lorraine, sister-in-law, Betty J. Wyatt, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and many friends. She was adored by all and will be deeply missed.
