Obituary for Catherine Hamond

Catherine Banks Stubbs Hammond was born October 13, 1924 in Griffin, Georgia to Sally Bell Banks. She later relocated to Rochester, New York. In Rochester, Catherine worked in the nursing field for many years, predominantly at nursing homes.

Catherine was an active individual who kept herself busy. She loved dancing and spending time with family and friends. She was a true family-oriented individual who was devoted to her family. Affectionately referred to as “Ma Dear”, Catherine was a strong, strict, “no-nonsense” individual. If you needed a listening ear, she
was the one to go to. After listening, Catherine would give you sound advice from her storehouse of wisdom. A person who could cook literally ANYTHING, Catherine will be fondly remembered for her talent in the kitchen.

She was married to Willie Henry Stubbs and later James Hammond.

Catherine loved the Lord. She was a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church for over 20 years. There, her involvement included serving on the Mother’s Board.

Catherine went to be wit the Lord on October 8, 2020. She is predeceased by her mother, Sally Bell Banks; her children: Natalie Stubbs, Willie James Stubbs Jr., and Marsha Stubbs; siblings: “Bo”, Evelyn, Mattie, E.J., Inez and Belle.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Creay and Kim Stubbs; two daughters, Diandra Lott and Janet Stubbs and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; nephews, nieces, other relatives, church family
