Obituary for Willie McClain

Willie Iris Taylor was born on October 25, 1925 in Auburn, Alabama to Carrie Florence Welch and Shedrick Taylor. She was the second eldest of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death.

Willie left Alabama as a young adult and moved to Florida, where she met her future husband, Jesse Rowe Sr. Together they moved to Rochester, New York, got married and went half on six children, two girls and four boys.

Willie went to work for the Rochester City School District driving school buses. She loved being with the students every day. This is where she met her second husband, Fred McClain. Unfortunately, instead of growing old together, Fred died from cancer in June of 1992. Willie retired a few years later so she could travel and do what she enjoyed: baking cakes from scratch, planting flowers and yard sale hopping on Saturdays. She also loved collecting antiques.

Willie passed away on June 18, 2020 as she rested, surrounded by those who loved her. Due to the tenderheartedness and compassion of her caregiver, Marlena Mickle (Keishia), she never saw the inside of a nursing home. For that, we will be eternally grateful.

Willie is preceded in death by: her daughter, Glorious Dean Rowe; sons, Ronald Lewis and Gary Lamar and grandson, Girard Lamont. She is survived by Betty Jean (Anthony), Jesse (Jerri), Dwayne, Rita (Elbert}, LaRon (Erica), Shaneen, Karess, Raven, Dione, Desmond, Dwayne II, Ronald, Lashana, and Corey Scott, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
