Obituary for Dorothy Rankin

Dorothy Rankin (Cole) was born April 26, 1952 in Sarasota, Florida, daughter of Allen and Rosa Lee Cole. She was a loving and very caring child. Her family moved from Florida to Batavia, New York, where they resided briefly until deciding to move to Rochester, New York.

In Rochester, Dorothy attended Schools Number 6, 9 and Benjamin Franklin High School. She later met and wed Harry Rankin Sr. To that union, one daughter, Angela Rankin, was born. Dorothy also had a stepson, Harry Rankin Jr. (Booke).

Dorothy worked at various jobs. Her experience included factory work and HHA. Her most recent position was that of a Daycare Provider Assistant.

She had a zest for life, and believed that she could accomplish
whatever she set out to do. She enjoyed life to the fullest. That included being outspoken, speaking whatever was on her mind. Dorothy was also the “life of the party” and always took great pleasure in spending time with her family. Her favorite hobbies included crocheting, reading and admiring her beautiful nails (which
she kept long).

Dorothy was preceded in death by: her parents, Allen and Rosa Lee Cole; daughter, Angela Rankin; sister, Vivian Cole; 2 brothers, Dwight Gordon and Allen Cole Jr. She passed away December 29, 2017 after battling many illnesses. She leaves to cherish her memory: her partner, Tim Simon; 3 grandchildren: Heaven and Mekhi Grayson and Quinton Adams; 5 sisters: Barbara Cole, Leola (Houston) Bean, Brendan (Willie) Johnson, Melissa Cole and Linda Cole (Sheldon); 2 brothers, James Cole and Jonathan (Prince) Cole, and a host of other relatives and friends.
